Aalto University researchers developed a predictive typing model that simulates human-like typing to optimize smartphone keyboard designs.
Researchers at Aalto University have developed a groundbreaking machine-learning model that simulates human typing behaviors to improve smartphone keyboard designs. This model, which incorporates virtual "eyes and fingers" along with working memory, accurately replicates the typing dynamics of different user groups, including variations between one-handed and two-handed typing and differences across age groups. Collaborating with Google, the team aims to use this model to streamline the typically costly and time-consuming process of keyboard testing. Set to present their findings at the CHI Conference on human-computer interaction, this research could significantly enhance user interface designs, making daily interactions with technology smoother and more intuitive.
